Dr. Katie Young brings a vast wealth of teaching experience and skills to Stoney Meadow Farms. From barrel racing, showing hunters and jumpers, playing competitive polocrosse and foxhunting. Katie has a wide range of horse knowledge to share with students. Katie teaches both western and english (hunters and jumpers).
With a PhD. in Equine Nutrition and Exercise Physiology, Katie also emphasizes all aspects of horse care. She teaches students about the horse and horsemanship. Katie has developed a strong following and her reputation is spreading quickly for quality instruction that challenges riders to achieve their fullest capabilities. Katie also works with Purina Mills as a consultant on numerous projects and seminars.
Katie has over 30 years of experience in the horse industry. She started riding as a child in southwest Missouri, first as a barrel racer, and later moving into hunters and jumpers. After moving to Texas, she continued participating in hunter/jumper shows, as well as dressage and combined training competitions, playing conpetitive polocrosse as a member of the Lonestar Polocrosse Team, and developed an interest in reining, trail, and western pleasure. She has also worked as a trainer and riding instructor in the hunter/jumper and stock seat disciplines for over 20 years, and continues to do so in the Kansas City area.
Katie earned her bachelor's degree from Southwest Missouri State University, and her doctorate from Texas A&M University, where she served on the faculty of the Equine Science Section in the Animal Science Department for eight years. During her tenure at Texas A&M, Katie taught the Introduction to Horses, Equestrian Technology, and Equine Behavior and Training courses. She also served as the Supervisor and Coach of the TAMU Equestrian Teams, qualifying teams to the National Horse Show for five years, as well as coaching seven Individual National Champions.
Katie has served as a judge for various hunter/jumper shows, as well as western and english Intercollegiate Horse Show Association competitions, has coached several U.S. Pony Clubs, and has worked extensively with 4-H groups.

Group Lessons
$45.00 per lesson on lesson horse
$40.00 per lesson on owner’s horse
$35.00 per lesson
(if paid by the month, 1 lesson per week minimum, payable at the beginning of the month - $140 or $165 per month)
Private Lessons
$60.00 per lesson
Haul-in Fee
Stoney Meadow Farms charges a $15.00 per day fee for non-boarder use of the premises. The fee is reduced to $10.00 for lesson students.
Policies:
If you cannot come to a lesson, if you let me know at least 24 hours in advance and I am able to schedule someone else into that time, I will be happy to schedule a makeup lesson for you. It is your responsibility to contact me to schedule the makeup lesson.
If weather causes a lesson to be postponed, I will call you and we can schedule a makeup lesson.
Riders in lessons are required to wear helmets, boots and long pants at all times when mounted.
